Simply put, patients have all different dental needs and priorities. So, the best place to start is by determining what yours are! For example, if you’ve struggled with dental-related anxiety in the past, you may be looking for a non-judgmental team and a calming atmosphere. If you are currently insured, finding a dentist who welcomes your dental insurance may be a top priority. Once you have a better understanding of what you’re looking for, then you can ask friends, family, and coworkers for their recommendations. Or, you can search “dentist near me” on Google!
First, the aspiring dentist needs to earn their bachelor’s degree. From there, they must be accepted to one of 67 accredited dental schools in the U.S. to obtain their Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS), which involves three years of extensive classroom and hands-on training. At this point, they will become a licensed dentist, but make no mistake, their education and training are far from over. The state they choose to practice in dictates how many CE hours they need to complete each year, and it’s very common for dentists to exceed that number in their pursuit of learning about the latest techniques and technology.
Where you should turn for emergency dental care relies heavily on whether or not you’re experiencing any potentially life-threatening symptoms. A broken jaw, difficulty breathing, trouble swallowing, and uncontrollable bleeding all require immediate medical attention, which is why you should call 911 or head to the nearest ER.
If you are NOT experiencing any potentially life-threatening symptoms, however, then you shouldn’t go to the ER since they don’t typically have a dentist on staff. As a result, this trip will simply leave you with an additional bill to pay. To prevent that from happening, make us your first call if you’ve knocked-out a tooth, have a loose restoration, have cracked a tooth, or something similar. That way, we can restore your pain-free smile in the most comfortable and efficient way possible.
Since there is a common misconception that dentistry is “too expensive,” it’s common for patients to assume that they simply can’t afford to care for their smile. However, we recommend talking to our team before making that decision. After all, we offer multiple financial solutions that can make preventive, restorative, and even cosmetic dental treatments fit into your monthly budget, such as dental insurance, our in-house savings plan, and flexible financing.
